The Story Behind Elite 100
Nazhat Al-Hafiz’s vision for a stronger voice for local drivers

Fairness. Equality. Opportunity.
Nazhat Al-Hafiz, Founder and Chair of Elite 100 Station Taxis
A new idea for York’s taxi drivers
Elite 100 Station Taxis began with a simple idea: local licensed taxi drivers should have the chance to work together, share opportunities and build a reliable living while serving passengers and the community. Its founder, Nazhat Al-Hafiz, had spent more than a decade in York’s taxi trade. He wanted to create an independent platform where drivers could have a stronger voice and play an active part in building something together.
For Nazhat, starting Elite 100 was not a decision made overnight. It grew out of his experience as a shareholder in Station Taxis, where he remains a shareholder today. He says that, despite holding shares, he was not given access to the radio and was not allowed to work through the operation. He felt he had no meaningful voice in decisions affecting him and other drivers.
A difficult experience and a turning point
Nazhat describes the treatment he experienced as unfair, discriminatory and harassing. He says he saw favouritism and felt that the way the organisation was run left some drivers without a fair opportunity to work or have their concerns heard. This is his account of his experience. He and other drivers felt they had little practical influence and did not have the resources to continue challenging the situation.
The decision to step away from day-to-day involvement was difficult. Nazhat says he and the other drivers believed they needed to build a new organisation of their own, while he retained his shares in Station Taxis. They wanted a place where drivers could join together, share work and take part in shaping the future of the platform.
Nazhat is firmly opposed to racism and corruption. He believes every driver deserves equal opportunity, fair treatment and a voice. He also believes that people who knowingly witness or support corrupt conduct for personal benefit share responsibility for allowing it to continue. Fairness, openness and respect should guide the way drivers work together.
Building Elite 100 together
Nazhat helped establish Elite 100 as a platform for local licensed drivers. The purpose is to bring drivers together, connect them with job opportunities and encourage them to take an active role in the association. He continues to welcome drivers who want to contribute, work cooperatively and help the organisation grow.
The door is open to drivers who want to become partners in the shared work and future of Elite 100. Nazhat wants people to feel that they are welcome, listened to and able to contribute. He believes a strong taxi platform is built by the people who do the work every day, sharing responsibility and supporting one another.
A shared purpose
Nazhat says Elite 100 was not created for one person’s personal gain. His aim is to build a platform that gives drivers a fair chance to earn their bread and butter, supports their families and helps them build a more secure future. By bringing drivers together, he hopes the association can create opportunities that would be harder for individual drivers to reach on their own.
The work is also about the people who rely on local taxis. Drivers know their streets, their communities and the needs of their passengers. Elite 100 wants to support that local knowledge and provide a dependable service for residents, visitors and people travelling through York.
Coverage in the York Press
During Elite 100’s launch, the York Press reported on Nazhat’s vision for bringing local taxi drivers together and creating a service that supports drivers and the community. The article is an independent record of the launch and the ideas behind the association.

Looking ahead
Nazhat continues to encourage drivers to take part and help shape what Elite 100 becomes. His vision is an open platform where local drivers can work together, support each other and serve the community with pride. He believes that when drivers have a fair opportunity and a genuine voice, the whole community can benefit.
Elite 100 is still growing, and its doors remain open to drivers who share that vision. For Nazhat, the story is about turning a difficult experience into a constructive new beginning: creating a place where drivers can work together, earn a living and help support the local community.
